THE SOUND OF SCANDINAVIA
Director: Marcus Warner
Release date: Est. March 2027
Journey with us through Norway and Sweden to discover the world of Scandinavian folk music.
For as long as I can remember I've had a fascination with folk music from around the world. The lively Celtic music of Scotland and Ireland has become a big part of my identity as a music composer, and I've written many songs that take influence from these rich, vibrant cultures. But now it’s time to step outside my comfort zone; to begin moving further afield. And for me, what better place to start than a land steeped in mythology. A land of dragons, stone giants, and elvish magic.
I want to try learning music that is unfamiliar to me, to understand how it is part of a culture and pay respect to that in my own work. Over several weeks during the summer months, my friends and I will be travelling through Norway and Sweden to experience their folk music scene; meet the people who keep it alive, and find inspiration for a new soundtrack to accompany this journey. I will try to learn how Scandinavian music is written, how it is played… and maybe even find myself a traditional Scandinavian instrument to help me on this journey.
If you are interested in supporting this project, please get in touch via the contact page. I will be looking to submit this documentary to film festivals in Norway and Sweden, as well as back home here in the UK. The soundtrack will be available on all music platforms.

TWICE ABOVE THE ATLANTIC
Director: Marcus Warner
Release date: January 2023
Six years in the making, Twice Above the Atlantic is a coming-of-age documentary celebrating the spirit of youth, challenges of travel, and pursuit of the great American road trip.
The film was made entirely by myself, from shooting on a Canon 550D in 2016 to editing, colour grading and sound design from the start of 2020 to mid-2022. The movie tells the story of my year as an exchange student in America, fixing up two malaise-era automobiles, and attempting to complete a 10,000 mile road trip in the final 36 days. As a musician, the soundtrack was a major focus of the project, inspired by the music I was listening to at the time, and released on all digital platforms as a forerunner to the film. Working entirely through the internet mid-pandemic, co-composer Aiden Appleton and myself found eight featuring artists to lend their vocal talents from the UK, US, and Canada.

SCOTLAND: WHERE THE EARTH MEETS THE SKY
Director: Marcus Warner
Release date: March 2019
Where the Earth Meets the Sky tells the story of a 1200-mile journey north to record five musicians in Glasgow and experience some of the best scenery the UK has to offer.
Affectionately labeled half vlog/half documentary, this film was made with one camera, one microphone and a drone over a week of travelling to record a new track. Alongside me on the journey was Eva Neuberger, whose help and cinematography made the film what it is and allowed us to get some incredible footage whilst driving. Special thanks go to Tom Campbell-Paine, who gathered a group of musicians to take part in the piece, and to BMG, Runrig and Paul Mounsey, for allowing me to cover 'An Toll Dubh' as part of the soundtrack.
A MATTER OF TIME
Director: Marcus Warner
Release date: June 2018
My first official music video, and to date still perhaps the one I am most proud of. The leading role was played by fellow student (at the time) Matthew Mainprize; the Datsun 180B generously provided for the shoot and driven by Paul Featherstone; a camera car and additional footage was provided by Barnaby Abbott. Shot on location in London, Devon, and Wiltshire.
In March 2024 I made the decision to pursue my filmmaking as a hobby by creating monthly videos talking about my writing and production techniques, life in the home studio, and work process; the first episode is an hour-long free preview of what virtual instruments I use!
